Oak Street Plaza and
Trillium Theater Redevelopment -
Wyandotte, Michigan
Thomas Roberts Architect
“I've
known Tom Roberts for the better part of ten years. We were both
actively involved in a project to rescue the abandoned Wyandotte
Theater as well as a spin off condominium /parking structure that was
to be connected to the Theater. Although we were ultimately unable to
complete these projects for a variety of reasons, I got to know Tom
rather well during this time. I really enjoyed working with him
because he was always upbeat and energetic, plus his level of
creativity and his commitment to the community typified the kind of
“old fashioned” values that I had begun to think had long since
vanished from our society. While working together, Tom designed a
beautiful contemporary home for himself and his family and chose to
construct it on an old, re-cycled lot in a traditional home- own
neighborhood. That home is like a breath of fresh air, and it makes a
strong, positive statement and points the way to a brighter future for
that neighborhood and the community. I found myself not only admiring
Tom for undertaking such a project, but also envying his relative
youth and energy, not to mention his talent and courage for doing
things his own, unique way.”

Gaudior Academy -
Career Speaker Day
Inkster, Michigan
“The
children enjoyed the presentation very much. It was wonderful that
they had the opportunity to visit with him and hear what he had to say
about the profession of architecture. So many of the children know
only what they see on TV. Tom’s visit gave them a much more realistic
view of what being an architect entails. The passion for what he does
was obvious and he communicated it well. The students and the teachers
appreciate his gift of time and experience..”

DYC Strategic Planning
Committee and Master Plan
-
Belle Isle, Michigan
“As Rear
Commodore in 2001, I was keenly interested in formulating a genuine
Strategic Plan to put that venerable organization on a pathway
different than solving the problem . I knew that Tom was an
up-and-coming architect and passionate teacher, but I had little idea
where that initial connection would go. In short he volunteered to
join our committee; his insight and uncommon common sense literally
shaped the entire direction and provided a pathway and framework that
few could initially comprehend. An entirely new culture was
established.”

“The
successful renovation of Fire Station #3 was a direct result of Tom’s
enthusiasm for the project and his ability to work closely with the
developer, City staff, and various City boards and commissions. Tom is
truly passionate about high-quality architecture and design, and as a
result has made the community a better place to live. .”

"It is
clear that Tomis a passionate, talented young architect. He approaches
issue with a very positive, 'can-do' attitude, and isn't afraid to
take on issues that others might shy away from because the "odds
aren't good". As a result, Tom has gotten, and will continue to get,
commissions that are reflective of our collective need to adapt
lessons and buildings from the past to more appropriately meet the
needs of our future."
